PNSW/RCC NEW to Whitewater Weekend Postponed to 4-5th March

Mar 4 2017 - 09:00 to Mar 5 2017 - 17:00
Trip Leader/Contact:
Steven Molino

This weekend is especially designed for juniors who are experienced flatwater paddlers.  We do also welcome parents and members who are keen to "make the move" to paddling whitewater rivers.   As an experienced whitewater paddler I've always found these events a lot of fun and rewarding. Please come and support the possibility of bringing more juniors and their parents to the Club.

But we must ask that all children be accompanied by parents when off the water.  And all adults supervising children on the water to hold a Working With Children Check.

Unfortunately we can not confirm the venue, as it is very dependant on rain and the rivers running at the right level for new paddlers, at that time.   It is proposed to be held at one of the following Sections on the Barrington, Murrumbidgee at Cotter Junction or below Childowlah (near Bookam).  You can check out the Waterways Guide links for a bit of an idea of the water we will be looking for.

We will be car camping. That means, that you can bring almost anything that fits in your car, but the key to our camps, is to be self sufficient. That means - food for the weekend, fresh water, camp chair, fire wood, tent and sleeping bag (favourite pillow) . (Some venues require camp fees - range from $8 to $15 each)

All paddlers will need warm long sleeve thermal/rashie and a shell (not raincoat) if it looks like rain. Soft soled footwear that you can swim in (and won't easily lose). All your kayak gear, life jacket, helmet, skirt if you have them or you can ask to borrow a Club boat if not. We do have limited stock in the junior size, so it will be first in first served.

You will need to be a PaddleNSW member (full junior) or participant of the current PaddleNSW course.  If a parent trying out whitewater for this weekend, we do require a full membership of PaddleNSW (and select the Education Group if not wishing to join a Club just yet). For this membership, you will have access to an RCC Club boat. life jacket, helmet and skirt) and full insurance till July next year.  (at a later date, if hooked, you can join a Club of your choice)

Thanks to the River Canoe Club for hosting this weekend and providing qualified instructors and equipment.   Please REGISTER HERE or email if you have further enquiries.
